Cobourg rides Lewis to victory over Trenton, 2-1

The Cobourg Cougars relied on the sparkling performance of Tyler Lewis in net to grab a 2-1 win against the Trenton Golden Hawks.

Cobourg's penalty kill excelled, as the Cougars gave up one goal despite allowing six power plays.

Cobourg was led by Mitchell Gibson, who tallied one goal. Gibson scored 18:09 into the third period to make the score 2-1 Cobourg.

Taylor Gauld also scored for Cobourg.

Trenton put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow the Cougars to score on any of their four power plays. The Golden Hawks' offense operated below their season average. Trenton averages 4.7 goals per game. The Golden Hawks' offense rang up 38 shots on Cobourg's net.

Trenton was led by Brady Wiffen, who scored the team's only goal. Wiffen scored on the power play 5:38 into the second period to make the score 1-0 Trenton. The Golden Hawks had gotten the advantage when the Cougars' Dawson Theede was sent off for holding. Chrisitian Lloyd picked up the assist.

Lewis recorded 37 saves for Cobourg. The Cougars incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors. Trenton's Justin Kapelmaster stopped 21 shots out of the 23 that he faced. The Golden Hawks incurred 16 minutes in penalty time with three minors.
