Pickering downs Milton, 5-2

Dalton Lawrence registered one point to lead the Pickering Panthers to a 5-2 victory over the Milton Icehawks.

Referees had their hands full with a major incident at 14:51 into the second period. Four fighting penalties were dished out along with two game misconducts.

Pickering's penalty box was a popular destination as the team totaled seven minors and one major for 19 minutes in penalty time. The Panthers surpassed its season average of 17.0 penalty minutes per game. Pickering excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in five chances.

Pickering additionally got points from Doug Carter, who also racked up one goal and one assist, Mitch Emerson, who also tallied one goal and one assist, BJ Salerno, who also grabbed one goal and two assists to lead the team in points, and Riley Devine, who also finished with one goal and one assist. In addition, Pickering received assists from Sean Power, Chris Sekelyk, and Justin Bennett, who contributed one each.

Milton's penalty killing units received substantial work throughout the game as the Icehawks finished with 25 penalty minutes.

Milton was helped by Sean Walter, who registered one goal. Walter scored 11:31 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Milton. Sean Robertson picked up the assist. Mitch Rooney also scored for Milton. Other players who recorded assists for Milton were Colt Jaime, Chris Poletek, and Michael Martellacci, who each chipped in one.

Austin Washkurak made 28 saves for the Panthers on 30 shots. Pickering registered two goals on eight power play opportunities. The Panthers ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Cam Palmer was ejected from the game. Scott Smith recorded 24 saves for the Icehawks. Team's Jaime and Walter were slapped with misconducts and ejected from the game.
