Emerson's hat trick boosts Pickering over St. Michaels, 8-5

The St. Michaels Buzzers could not stop the Pickering Panthers' Mitch Emerson, who tallied a hat trick in an 8-5 win.

Emerson's first goal came 13:49 into the first period. He then added goals at 14:07 into the second and at 17:34 into the third.

St. Michaels' power play was ineffective against Pickering's penalty kill, which allowed one goal while shorthanded.

Referees had their hands full with a major incident at 20:00 into the second period. Eight fighting penalties were dished out along with six game misconducts.

The Panthers racked up the penalties in the contest, and ended with eight minors and two majors for 36 minutes in penalty time. Pickering surpassed its season average of 17.0 penalty minutes per game. The Buzzers were unable to stop the Panthers from sending pucks towards the net, and Pickering eventually piled up 35 shots on goal. The Panthers found the back of the net more times than it usually has this season. Pickering averages 3.3 goals per game.

Pickering additionally got points from Dalton Lawrence, who also grabbed one goal and one assist and Riley Devine, who also registered two goals and two assists to lead the team in points. Pickering also had goals scored by Lucas Condotta and Blake Coffey, who scored one goal each. In addition, Pickering received assists from BJ Salerno, who had three and Brian Hurley, Doug Carter, Daniel Barnes, Chris Sekelyk, Austin Washkurak, Matteo Condotta, and Justin Bennett, who each chipped in one.

St. Michaels was often in penalty trouble, totaling five minors and two majors for 50 minutes in penalty time. The total exceeded the 15.0 minutes per game the Buzzers had been spending in the box. St. Michaels' offense rang up 32 shots on the Panthers' net. The Buzzers bested their season scoring average. This season, St. Michaels averages 2.8 goals per contest.

The Buzzers were helped by Troy Oakley, who had one goal. Oakley scored 14:06 into the first period to make the score 1-1. St. Michaels also got points from Joseph Berton, who also racked up one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Others who scored for St. Michaels included Ian Edmondson, Noah Jordan, and Michael Andlauer, who each put in one. More assists for St. Michaels came via Marco Ferraro, who had two and Thomas Beretta, Matt Pepler, and Cameron Searles, who contributed one each.

Pickering's Washkurak stopped 27 shots out of the 32 that he faced. The Panthers registered two goals on four power play opportunities. Team's Mark Tenuta and Condotta were slapped with misconducts and ejected from the game. George Argiropoulos rejected 27 shots on goal for St. Michaels. For the Buzzers, Scott Teskey, Bron Loiselle, and Oakley were ejected from the contest.
