Orangeville holds on for 3-2 win against WhitbyAlder St. Recreation Centre Sat, Nov 29, 2014 Story by Narrative Science.
The Whitby Fury tried to dig themselves out of a two-goal hole, but the Orangeville Flyers held on for a 3-2 victory. Orangeville took a 3-1 lead during the third period, only to have Whitby storm back on a Matt Fischer goal 19:33 into the third period to pull to one goal down. The Flyers were led by Ian Nichols, who had one goal and one assist. Nichols scored 1:21 into the third period to make the score 3-1 Orangeville. Lucas Smilsky provided the assist. Orangeville's penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on four Whitby power plays. The Flyers kept the Fury's goalie busy throughout the game, and Tyler Feaver made 35 saves on 38 shots. Others who scored for Orangeville included Adam Giacomin and Connor Stack, who scored one goal each. More assists for Orangeville came via Colin Rigney, Daniel DeRose, and Christopher Sciammarella, who contributed one each. Whitby stifled Orangeville's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. The Flyers were unable to stop the Fury from sending pucks towards the net, and Whitby eventually piled up 47 shots on goal. The Fury were helped by Daniel Robertson, who finished with one goal. Robertson scored 12:44 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Orangeville. Justin Brand assisted on the tally. Other players who recorded assists for Whitby were Stefan von Engelbrechten, who had one and Ryan Kirkup, who had two. Orangeville's Wyatt Pickrell stopped 45 shots out of the 47 that he faced. The Flyers incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors. Whitby incurred 20 minutes in penalty time with five minors.
