Newmarket holds on for 3-2 win against Trenton

The Newmarket Hurricanes survived a determined comeback attempt by the Trenton Golden Hawks on the way to a 3-2 win.

Newmarket made the score 3-1 on a goal by Curtis Harvey at 11:24 in the second period, and Trenton got as close as 3-2 when Tyler Donaldson scored 35 seconds into the third period.

The Hurricanes were sparked by Harvey, who had one goal.

Newmarket put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow the Golden Hawks to score on any of their three power plays. Trenton was unable to stop the Hurricanes from sending pucks towards the net, and Newmarket eventually piled up 35 shots on goal.

Newmarket also had goals scored by Jonathan Colley and Anthony Salemi, who each put in one. In addition, Newmarket received assists from Nick Boddy, Sam Hu, Cameron Nicoll, and Ryan McReynolds, who contributed one each.

The Golden Hawks' penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on five Newmarket power plays. Trenton could not produce up to its normal offensive output. The Golden Hawks put an average of 4.8 pucks into the net per game. Trenton forced the Hurricanes goalie Connor Ryckman to work between the pipes, taking 45 shots.

The Golden Hawks were helped by Aidan Parker, who tallied one goal. Parker scored 4:49 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Trenton. Robert Smythe assisted on the tally. More assists for Trenton came via Kevin Lavoie and Nick Santoro, who each chipped in one.

Ryckman recorded 43 saves for Newmarket. The Hurricanes incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors. Justin Kapelmaster made 32 saves for Trenton on 35 shots. The Golden Hawks incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors.
