North York rides Baggetta to victory over Wellington, 2-1

The North York Rangers relied on the sparkling performance of Gianluca Baggetta in net to grab a 2-1 win against the Wellington Dukes.

North York's penalty kill excelled, as the Rangers gave up zero goals despite allowing nine power plays.

North York was led by Matthew Whittaker, who grabbed one goal. Whittaker scored short handed 12:38 into the second period to make the score 2-1 North York. The Rangers played down a man on Jeremy Szabo's interference. Kyle Clarke picked up the assist.

North York stifled Wellington's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. The Rangers could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 30 minutes in penalties during the game.

Jake Harris also scored for North York. In addition, North York received assists from Nick Zanette and Graeme MacLean, who each chipped in one.

The Dukes were held below their usual level of production. Wellington averages 3.3 goals per game.

The Dukes were led by Chase St Aubin, who scored the team's only goal. St Aubin scored 2:23 into the second period to make the score 1-1. Marco Azzano provided the assist.

Baggetta rejected 29 shots on goal for North York. The Rangers registered zero goals on two power play opportunities. Olivier Lafreniere recorded 22 saves for Wellington. The Dukes incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors.
