Cobourg hangs on, beats Burlington 2-0Appleby Arena Fri, Nov 21, 2014 Story by Narrative Science.
The Cobourg Cougars took the lead against the Burlington Cougars in the first period and maintained it until the end of the game to secure a tight 2-0 victory. A goal 14:08 into the first period by Connor Armour proved to be the game winner, and powered Cobourg to the victory. Connor Hogg assisted on the tally.Tyler Lewis spearheaded the defensive effort for the Cougars, as he did not allow a puck past him and made 29 saves for the shutout. Lewis certainly lowered his goals against average, which was 3.91 entering the contest. Cobourg was led by Armour, who had one goal. The Cougars stifled Burlington's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. Cobourg's defensive effort looked to be improved. The Cougars average 2.5 goals allowed per game. Cobourg forced the Cougars goalie Joe Noonan to work between the pipes, taking 36 shots. Cobourg also got a goal from Spencer Holt as well. More assists for Cobourg came via Joe Seney, who had one. Burlington put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow the Cougars to score on any of their three power plays. The Cougars did not reach the goal total they have come to expect this season. Burlington averages 2.3 goals per game. Cobourg incurred 14 minutes in penalty time with two minors. Noonan recorded 34 saves for the Cougars. Burlington incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors.
