Cobourg squeaks by Hamilton, 4-2

In a game where neither team could get a cushion, the Cobourg Cougars escaped with a 4-2 victory over the Hamilton Red Wings.

Each team kept the other at bay throughout the game, and Cole Langan secured the win for Cobourg with a goal in the third period.

The Cougars got the win behind a great game by Mitchell Gibson, who had two goals and one assist. Gibson scored the first of his two goals at 10:10 into the third period to make the score 2-1 Cobourg. Connor Hogg picked up the assist. Gibson's next tally made the score 3-2 Cobourg with 1:04 left in the third period.

Cobourg stifled Hamilton's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. The Cougars forced the Red Wings goalie Mark Sinclair to work between the pipes, taking 36 shots.

Cobourg also got points from Langan, who also racked up one goal and one assist. Matt Carroll also scored for Cobourg. More assists for Cobourg came via Rylee McKinnon, Jake Baird, and Riley Stillman, who contributed one each.

Hamilton's offense rang up 42 shots on Cobourg's net. The Red Wings' penalty kill unit could not stop the Cougars' power play, which converted on two of three opportunities.

Hamilton was helped by Erick Delaurentis, who registered two goals. Delaurentis scored the first of his two goals at 10:28 into the second period to make the score 1-1. Delaurentis' next tally made the score 2-2 with 6:18 left in the third period. Rylee St. Onge assisted on the tally. Hamilton also got a goal from Ryan Erickson as well. Other players who recorded assists for Hamilton were Otis Goldman, Luke Sinclair, and Alex Zaccaria, who each chipped in one.

Cobourg's Tyler Lewis stopped 40 shots out of the 42 that he faced. The Cougars incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors. Sinclair rejected 32 shots on goal for the Red Wings. Hamilton incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors.
