Trenton erases deficit to stun Whitby, 4-3

The Trenton Golden Hawks rallied from two goals down to secure a 4-3 win over the Whitby Fury.

Trenton never led in the game until netting the game winner. The Golden Hawks fell behind 2-0 after a goal by Whitby's Henry Thompson at 12:34 in the first period. Trenton tied things up at 3-3 on a goal by Brady Wiffen at 19:58 in the second period. The Golden Hawks scored the game winner short handed at 15:50 in the third period on a goal by Wiffen.

Trenton got the win on the strength of a great game by Wiffen, who had two goals and one assist. Wiffen scored the first of his two goals at 27 seconds into the second period to make the score 2-1 Whitby. Zach de Concilys picked up the assist. Wiffen's next tally made the score 3-3 with two seconds left in the second period. Chrisitian Lloyd assisted on the tally.

The Golden Hawks stifled the Fury's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. Trenton's offense rang up 38 shots on Whitby's net.

Trenton additionally got points from de Concilys, who also had one goal and one assist. Trenton also got a goal from Kevin Lavoie as well. Other players who recorded assists for Trenton were Hunter Fargey, who had one and Matt Pizzo, who had two.

The Fury put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow the Golden Hawks to score on any of their four power plays.

Whitby was helped by Nik Coric, who registered one goal. Coric scored 1:11 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Whitby. Thompson picked up the assist. Whitby also got points from Thompson, who also tallied one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Zach Viminitz also scored for Whitby. In addition, Whitby received assists from Nicholas Lepone, Ryan Kirkup, and Jonathan OHara, who contributed one each.

Justin Kapelmaster made 26 saves for Trenton on 29 shots. The Golden Hawks incurred 20 minutes in penalty time with five minors. The Fury's Tyler Feaver stopped 34 shots out of the 38 that he faced. Whitby incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors.
