Wellington falls to Cobourg in overtime, 2-1 (OT)Wellington CC Fri, Nov 07, 2014 Story by Narrative Science.
Cole Langan gave the Cobourg Cougars a 2-1 (OT) victory over the Wellington Dukes when he scored 3:25 into the extra period. Cobourg was led by goalie Stefano Durante, who finished with 42 saves while allowing one goal. Durante managed to improve on his goals against average, which stood at 1.74 prior to the game. The Cougars were sparked by Langan, who racked up one goal. Referees had their hands full with a major incident at 1:56 into the third period. Four fighting penalties were dished out along with two game misconducts. Cobourg put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow Wellington to score on any of its four power plays. Spencer Holt also scored for Cobourg. More assists for Cobourg came via Mitchell Gibson, Connor Armour, and Austin Veleke, who contributed one each. The Dukes could not produce up to their normal offensive output. Wellington puts an average of 3.4 pucks into the net per game. The Dukes' offense rang up 43 shots on the Cougars' net. Wellington was led by Marco Azzano, who scored the team's only goal. Azzano scored 17:48 into the second period to make the score 1-1. Josh Supryka picked up the assist. Cobourg totaled 23 minutes in penalty time with four minors and one major and went 0-for-1 on the power play. The Cougars ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Veleke was ejected from the game. Taylor Welsh made 28 saves for the Dukes on 30 shots. Wellington ended with nine minutes in penalty time with two minors and one major. For the Dukes, Jake Falcao was ejected from the game.
