North York downs Newmarket in overtime, 5-4 (OT)

Will Reilly gave the North York Rangers a 5-4 (OT) victory over the Newmarket Hurricanes when he scored 3:55 into the extra period.

Newmarket's power play was ineffective against North York's penalty kill, which allowed one goal while shorthanded.

The Rangers forced the Hurricanes goalie Connor Ryckman to work between the pipes, taking 36 shots. Team could not crack Newmarket's penalty kill and was held to one power play goal while having 10 opportunities to play with the man advantage. North York got an offensive boost from its blueliners, who contributed two goals during the game.

The Rangers were led by Matthew Whittaker, who tallied three goals. Anthony Paveglio also scored for North York. In addition, North York received assists from Brett Seldon, who had two, Gabriel Valenzuela, who had three, and Jacob McKenzie, Zachary Fung, Michael Morgan, Nick Zanette, and Jake Harris, who contributed one each.

The Hurricanes' penalty killing units received substantial work throughout the game as Newmarket finished with 28 penalty minutes.

The Hurricanes were led by Ryan Young, who racked up one goal and one assist. Young scored 8:30 into the third period to make the score 4-3 Newmarket. Curtis Harvey picked up the assist. Newmarket also got points from Cameron Nicoll, who also registered one goal and one assist. Others who scored for Newmarket included Nick Boddy and Dallas Baird, who each put in one. Other players who recorded assists for Newmarket were Taylor Joseph, Mackenzie OMahony, Joseph Mizzi, Jacob Piltzmaker, and Anthony Salemi, who each chipped in one.

North York's Gianluca Baggetta stopped 25 shots out of the 29 that he faced. The Rangers incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors. Ryckman rejected 31 shots on goal for Newmarket.
