Mississauga outlasts Milton, 3-2

In a game where neither team could get a cushion, the Mississauga Chargers escaped with a 3-2 victory over the Milton Icehawks.

Neither team gained more than a one-goal lead, and Joseph Molinaro's goal in the third period proved to be the difference maker.

Molinaro had two goals and one assist to lead Mississauga. Molinaro scored the first of his two goals at 11:04 into the third period to make the score 2-2. Phillip Chadder provided the assist. Molinaro's next tally made the score 3-2 Mississauga with one second1 seconds left in the third period. Marco Mattina picked up the assist.

Referees had their hands full with a major incident at 12:12 into the third period. Four fighting penalties were dished out along with two game misconducts.

The Chargers racked up the penalties in the contest, and ended with six minors and two majors for 32 minutes in penalty time. The total exceeded the 22.0 minutes per game Mississauga had been spending in the box. The Chargers forced Milton goalie Cosimo Lazzarino to work between the pipes, taking 44 shots.

Mississauga also got a goal from Vince Figliomeni as well. Other players who recorded assists for Mississauga were Domenic Commisso, Stefano Alonzi, and Scott Docherty, who each chipped in one.

The Icehawks were often in penalty trouble, totaling 10 minors and two majors for 80 minutes in penalty time. Milton surpassed its season average of 27.0 penalty minutes per game. The Icehawks stifled Mississauga's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man.

Milton was helped by Jordan Anderson, who registered one goal. Anderson scored on the power play 4:38 into the third period to make the score 2-1 Milton. The Icehawks had taken the advantage when the Chargers' Alonzi got sent off for fighting. Adam Burnett assisted on the tally. Mitch Graham also scored for Milton. More assists for Milton came via Alex Riche, Jake Baird, and Michael Martellacci, who contributed one each.

Alex Lepore made 18 saves for Mississauga on 20 shots. The Chargers registered zero goals on eight power play opportunities. For Mississauga, Alonzi and Jordan Addesi were ejected from the contest. Milton's Lazzarino stopped 41 shots out of the 44 that he faced. The Icehawks registered one goal on five power play opportunities. Team's Anthony Baxter, Colt Jaime, Chris Poletek, and Brendan Doherty were slapped with misconducts and ejected from the game.
