Stouffville takes care of Milton early, wins 9-0

The Stouffville Spirit opened up a four-goal lead after the first period and did not look back en route to a 9-0 win over the Milton Icehawks.

Conor McCollum frustrated Milton's offense all game, and stopped 25 shots en route to a shutout. McCollum managed to improve on his goals against average, which stood at 3.99 prior to the game.

Tyson Bruce was all over the ice for Stouffville, as he tallied two goals and one assist in the win. Bruce scored the first of his two goals at 10:04 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Stouffville. Matthew Dunlop provided the assist. Bruce's next tally made the score 5-0 Stouffville with 13:21 left in the second period. Nick Thomakos picked up the assist.

The Spirit forced the Icehawks' goaltenders to work between the pipes, launching 53 shots and forcing 44 saves. Tyler Lewis made 34 stops and Cosimo Lazzarino made 10. Stouffville excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in five chances. The Spirit outdid their season average for goals scored. Stouffville has scored at the pace of 3.8 goals per game during the current campaign.

Stouffville additionally got points from Brodie Tutton, who also finished with one goal and two assists, Matt Tustin, who also grabbed one goal and one assist, Alex Gilmour, who also registered one goal and three assists to lead the team in points, Ben Jones, who also tallied one goal and one assist, and Thomakos, who also had two goals and one assist. Chad Burrows also scored for Stouffville. More assists for Stouffville came via Joseph Deveny, who had two and Elijah Roberts, Matthew Heffernan, Cameron Lintner, and Michael Giacometti, who each chipped in one.

Milton could not produce up to its normal offensive output. The Icehawks put an average of 2.6 pucks into the net per game. Milton could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 30 minutes in penalties during the game.

The Spirit incurred 28 minutes in penalty time with nine minors. For the Icehawks, Chris Poletek was ejected from the game.
