Newmarket downs Oakville, 6-3

Jacob Piltzmaker finished with one point to lead the Newmarket Hurricanes to a 6-3 victory over the Oakville Blades.

In a losing effort, Oakville was paced by Ryan Garvey, who grabbed two goals. Garvey scored the first of his two goals short handed at 5:34 into the third period to make the score 3-2 Newmarket. The Blades were on a disadvantage when Max Lindsay went off the ice for head contact. Garvey's next tally short handed made the score 3-3 with 13:12 left in the third period.

Newmarket's penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on three Oakville power plays. The Hurricanes forced Oakville goalie Brendan McGlynn to work between the pipes, taking 37 shots. Newmarket outdid its season average for goals scored. The Hurricanes average 3.6 goals per game. Team's forwards weren't the only contributers offensively, and the team's defensemen showcased their scoring touch with two goals.

Newmarket additionally got points from Ryan Shaw, who also had one goal and one assist and Jonathan Colley, who also finished with one goal and one assist. Newmarket also had goals scored by Nick Boddy, Sam Hu, and Joseph Mizzi, who each put in one. Other players who recorded assists for Newmarket were Curtis Harvey, who had three and Jordan Oshowy, Cameron Nicoll, Taylor Joseph, Mackenzie OMahony, and Brett Thomson, who contributed one each.

The Blades forced their penalty killing units to work especially hard during the game, picking up eight minors and one major for 51 minutes in penalty time. Oakville surpassed its season average of 17.0 penalty minutes per game.

Oakville also got a goal from Josh Kosack as well. In addition, Oakville received assists from Daniel Jelic and Sean Kohler, who each chipped in one.

Connor Ryckman made 27 saves for Newmarket on 30 shots. The Hurricanes incurred 18 minutes in penalty time with four minors. The Blades' McGlynn stopped 31 shots out of the 36 that he faced. Team's Ryan Markovic and Lindsay were slapped with misconducts and ejected from the game.
