Wellington rips Pickering, 7-3Wellington CC Sun, Oct 26, 2014 Story by Narrative Science.
The Wellington Dukes had a three-goal lead after two periods and cruised the rest of the way en route to a 7-3 win over the Pickering Panthers. Justin Bean had a great game for Wellington, netting two goals. Bean scored on the power play at 11:39 into the first period to make the score 3-1 Wellington and again while on the power play 44 seconds into the second to make the score 4-1 Wellington. The Dukes forced Panthers' netminders to work without much rest, taking 38 shots and forcing 31 saves. Jordan Cartney made 27 stops and Eric Pitcher made four. Wellington managed to stay out of the box better than usual, tallying one minor for two minutes in penalty time. The Dukes wound up below its season average of 13.0 penalty minutes per game. Wellington outdid its season average for goals scored. The Dukes have scored at the pace of 3.4 goals per game during the current campaign. Wellington got an offensive boost from its blueliners, who contributed two goals during the game. Wellington also got points from Marco Azzano, who also had one goal and one assist, Josh Supryka, who also registered two goals and one assist, Abbott Girduckis, who also finished with one goal and two assists, and Joe McKeown, who also grabbed one goal and two assists. Other players who recorded assists for Wellington were Andrew Coupland, who had two and Brody Morris, Luc Brown, Ben Sokay, and Griffin McCarty, who contributed one each. The Dukes were unable to stop Pickering from sending pucks towards the net, and the Panthers eventually piled up 31 shots on goal. Pickering was helped by Riley Devine, who had one goal. Devine scored 13:00 into the second period to make the score 4-3 Wellington. Blake Coffey picked up the assist. Pickering additionally got points from BJ Salerno, who also registered one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Pickering also got a goal from Nicholas Lepone as well. In addition, Pickering received assists from Cam Palmer, Brendan Hancock, and Daniel Butchart, who each chipped in one. Taylor Welsh made 28 saves for Wellington on 31 shots. The Dukes registered two goals on six power play opportunities. The Panthers incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors. Pickering ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Chris Sekelyk was ejected from the game.
