North York holds on for 3-2 win against Milton

The Milton Icehawks tried their best to erase a two-goal deficit, but the North York Rangers would not be denied the victory and hung on to win, 3-2.

A goal by Will Reilly put North York up 3-1 in the second period, but Milton pulled to within one on Jake Baird's tally 19:57 into the third period.

Reilly had two goals to lead the Rangers to victory.

Referees had their hands full with a major incident at 18:49 into the second period. Four fighting penalties were dished out along with two game misconducts.

North York's penalty box was a popular destination as the team totaled 10 minors and one major for 25 minutes in penalty time. The Rangers surpassed its season average of 16.0 penalty minutes per game. North York's penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on four Milton power plays. The Icehawks were unable to stop the Rangers from sending pucks towards the net, and North York eventually piled up 40 shots on goal. The Rangers got an offensive boost from their blueliners, who contributed two goals during the game.

North York also got a goal from Kyle Clarke as well. More assists for North York came via Gabriel Valenzuela, who had two and Ted Hunt, Kyle Cochrane, Zack Fisher, and Louis Kereakou, who each chipped in one.

Milton racked up the penalties in the contest, and ended with 16 minors and one major for 67 minutes in penalty time. The Icehawks had been averaging 23.0 minutes in penalties per game.

Milton was helped by Kevin Fitzpatrick, who tallied one goal. Fitzpatrick scored 5:54 into the second period to make the score 2-1 North York. Brendan Doherty provided the assist. In addition, Milton received assists from Adam Burnett and Mitch Graham, who contributed one each.

Gianluca Baggetta rejected 23 shots on goal for North York. The Rangers registered two goals on 14 power play opportunities. North York ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Ryan Takamatsu was ejected from the game. Cosimo Lazzarino made 37 saves for the Icehawks on 40 shots. For Milton, Josh Chiarot was ejected from the game.
