Trenton rides Kapelmaster to victory over Buffalo, 3-1

Behind a great game by Braden Hellems, who had one goal and two assists, the Trenton Golden Hawks defeated the Buffalo Jr. Sabres, 3-1.

Hellems scored 43 seconds into the second period to make the score 1-1. Hellems dished an assist on Danny Liscio's goal that made the score 2-1 Trenton at 3:25 into the second period. He added another helper on Robert Smythe's goal that made the score 3-1 Trenton at 12:37 into the second period.

Trenton was led by goalie Justin Kapelmaster, who finished with 26 saves while allowing one goal. Kapelmaster certainly lowered his goals against average, which was 2.04 entering the contest.

The Golden Hawks' penalty kill excelled, as Trenton gave up zero goals despite allowing six power plays.

Referees had their hands full with a major incident at 8:06 into the third period. Four fighting penalties were dished out along with three game misconducts.

The Golden Hawks stifled Buffalo's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man.

Other players who recorded assists for Trenton were Blayne Oliver and Chrisitian Lloyd, who each chipped in one.

The Jr. Sabres were led by Zach Evancho, who scored the team's only goal. Evancho scored 3:00 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Buffalo. Ryan Kuhn assisted on the tally.

Trenton totaled 33 minutes in penalty time with four minors and one major and went 1-for-3 on the power play. For the Golden Hawks, Loren Ulett was ejected from the game. Alex Connal recorded 26 saves for Buffalo. The Jr. Sabres ended with 23 minutes in penalty time with four minors and one major. Team's Max McCutcheon and Christopher Berger were slapped with misconducts and ejected from the game.
