Huge game by Deveny boosts Stouffville over Burlington, 6-1

Aaron Taylor had a standout game with 30 saves, and the Stouffville Spirit beat the Burlington Cougars 6-1.

Stouffville pulled out the victory even though it was hit with 36 penalty minutes.

The Spirit forced Burlington's goaltenders to work between the pipes, ripping 48 shots and forcing 42 saves. Evgueni Makarski made 25 stops and Cammeron Radford made 17. Stouffville put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow the Cougars to score on any of their six power plays. The Spirit bested their season scoring average. Stouffville has scored at the pace of 3.7 goals per game during the current campaign.

The Spirit were led by Joseph Deveny, who had one goal and two assists. Deveny scored 5:08 into the first period to make the score 1-1. Chad Burrows assisted on the tally. Stouffville additionally got points from Brodie Tutton, who also racked up one goal and one assist and Nick Thomakos, who also tallied one goal and one assist. Stouffville also had goals scored by Christopher Brill-Morgan, Alex Gilmour, and Michael Giacometti, who scored one goal each. In addition, Stouffville received assists from Cameron Lintner, who had two and Colton Sansom, Matthew Dunlop, Tyson Bruce, and Kyle Gentles, who each chipped in one.

Burlington's offense rang up 31 shots on Stouffville's net.

The Cougars were led by Steve Mariani, who scored the team's only goal. Mariani scored 1:13 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Burlington. Jack Jeffers picked up the assist.

The Spirit registered two goals on six power play opportunities. Burlington incurred 18 minutes in penalty time with four minors.
