The Stouffville Spirit and the Newmarket Hurricanes skate to 6-6 (OT) tie

Stouffville and Newmarket could not settle their match and fought to a 6-6 tie.

The Spirit's offense rang up 42 shots on the Hurricanes' net. Stouffville's goal total was higher than its season average. This season, the Spirit average 3.5 goals per contest. Stouffville found itself short handed often, totaling 24 penalty minutes and allowing nine power plays.

The Spirit were led by Brodie Tutton, who had one goal and three assists. Tutton scored 13:19 into the third period to make the score 6-6. Matthew Heffernan assisted on the tally. Stouffville also got points from Nick Thomakos, who also grabbed one goal and one assist. Stouffville also had goals scored by Joseph Deveny, who had two and Robert Clark and Tyson Bruce, who scored one goal each. Other players who recorded assists for Stouffville were Chad Burrows, who had two and Matthew Dunlop and Alex Gilmour, who contributed one each.

Newmarket forced Spirit's goaltenders to work in net, firing 48 shots and forcing 42 saves. Aaron Taylor made 33 stops and Conor McCollum made nine. The Hurricanes outdid their season average for goals scored. Newmarket averages 3.5 goals per game.

The Hurricanes were led by Sam Hu, who registered one goal and two assists. Hu scored on the power play 2:09 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Newmarket. Newmarket earned a power play opportunity when Bruce was put in the box for holding. Anthony Salemi picked up the assist. Newmarket additionally got points from Nik Coric, who also finished with one goal and one assist and Jacob Piltzmaker, who also had one goal and one assist. Others who scored for Newmarket included Cameron Nicoll, Ryan Shaw, and Ryan McReynolds, who each put in one. In addition, Newmarket received assists from Dallas Baird, Mackenzie OMahony, and Ryan Young, who each chipped in one.

Stouffville registered two goals on five power play opportunities. The Spirit ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Dunlop was ejected from the game. Connor Ryckman recorded 36 saves for the Hurricanes. Newmarket incurred 14 minutes in penalty time with seven minors.
