Pickering hangs on, beats Toronto Jr. Canadiens 3-1

The Pickering Panthers took the lead against the Toronto Jr. Canadiens Junior Canadiens in the first period and maintained it until the end of the game to secure a tight 3-1 victory.

Nicholas Lepone provided Pickering with the game-winning tally when he scored 12:48 into the first period. BJ Salerno assisted on the tally.

Toronto Jr. Canadiens was stymied by the Panthers' netminder Jordan Cartney, who stopped 31 shots during the victory. The solid play of Cartney will be reflected in his goals against average, which pre-game was 3.18.

Pickering's penalty kill excelled, as the Panthers gave up one goal despite allowing six power plays.

Pickering kept the Junior Canadiens' goalie busy throughout the game, and Daniel Lopapa made 35 saves on 38 shots.

Pickering also got points from Joseph Mitchell, who also grabbed one goal and one assist and Lepone, who also had one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. More assists for Pickering came via Brian Hurley, Sean Power, and Blake Coffey, who contributed one each.

Toronto Jr. Canadiens stifled the Panthers' power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. The Junior Canadiens did not reach the goal total they have come to expect this season. Toronto Jr. Canadiens averages 3.5 goals per game. The Junior Canadiens forced Pickering goalie Cartney to work between the pipes, taking 32 shots.

Toronto Jr. Canadiens was led by Michael Cuddemi, who scored the team's only goal. Cuddemi scored 16:46 into the third period to make the score 2-1 Pickering. Sal Filice picked up the assist.

The Panthers incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors. The Junior Canadiens incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors.
