Wellington blows out Burlington, 4-1Appleby Arena Sun, Oct 12, 2014 Story by Narrative Science.
The Wellington Dukes had a two-goal lead after two periods and cruised the rest of the way en route to a 4-1 win over the Burlington Cougars. Burlington was stymied by Wellington's netminder Olivier Lafreniere, who stopped 29 shots during the victory. Lafreniere managed to improve on his goals against average, which stood at 2.26 prior to the game. The Dukes got the win on the strength of a great game by Joe McKeown, who had two goals and one assist. McKeown scored the first of his two goals on the power play at 1:54 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Wellington. Wellington had taken the advantage when the Cougars' Steve Mariani got sent off for hooking. Andrew Coupland picked up the assist. McKeown's next tally on the power play made the score 4-1 Wellington with 11:06 left in the third period. Jacob Panetta provided the assist. The Dukes excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in seven chances. Burlington was unable to stop Wellington from sending pucks towards the net, and the Dukes eventually piled up 56 shots on goal. Wellington could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 26 minutes in penalties during the game. Wellington additionally got points from Abbott Girduckis, who also finished with one goal and one assist. Wellington also got a goal from Ben Sokay as well. More assists for Wellington came via Nick Devito, who had one and Dylan Mascarin, who had two. The Cougars were led by Dante Felicetti, who scored the team's only goal. Felicetti scored 13:38 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Wellington. Ben Scheel assisted on the tally. The Dukes registered one goal on four power play opportunities. Burlington's Cammeron Radford stopped 52 shots out of the 56 that he faced. The Cougars incurred 20 minutes in penalty time with five minors.
