Aurora holds on for 5-3 win against WhitbyIroquois - Rink#1 Fri, Oct 10, 2014 Story by Narrative Science.
The Whitby Fury tried to dig themselves out of a four-goal hole, but the Aurora Tigers held on for a 5-3 victory. Aurora took a 5-1 lead during the second period, only to have Whitby storm back on a Ryan Kirkup goal 13:20 into the third period to pull to two goals down. The Tigers got the win behind a great game by Michael Laidley, who had one goal and two assists. Laidley scored on the power play 9:41 into the second period to make the score 4-1 Aurora. Aurora had gained a power play chance when Jonathan OHara was whistled for slashing. Drake Board assisted on the tally. The Tigers' penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on five Whitby power plays. Aurora's offense rang up 36 shots on the Fury's net. Others who scored for Aurora included Marty Lawlor, Keaton Ratcliffe, Shane Beaulieu, and Nicholas Erb, who each put in one. In addition, Aurora received assists from Daniel Mantenuto, John Curran, and Sam Quaranta, who contributed one each. Whitby was helped by Mitch Emerson, who finished with one goal and one assist. Emerson scored 1:30 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Whitby. Kirkup picked up the assist. Whitby additionally got points from Kirkup, who also grabbed one goal and one assist. Davis Kuksis also scored for Whitby. More assists for Whitby came via Zack Elson and Stefan von Engelbrechten, who each chipped in one. Andy Munroe made 18 saves for the Tigers on 21 shots. Aurora incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors. For the Tigers, Ratcliffe was ejected from the game. The Fury's Tyler Feaver stopped 31 shots out of the 36 that he faced. Whitby incurred 14 minutes in penalty time with seven minors.
