Wellington beats Lindsay 12-0 as Welsh gains shutout

Taylor Welsh was superb between the pipes for the Wellington Dukes, as he did not allow a goal in a 12-0 victory over the Lindsay Muskies.

Dylan Mascarin had two goals and two assists to lead Wellington. Mascarin scored the first of his two goals at 2:48 into the third period to make the score 8-0 Wellington. Nick Devito picked up the assist. Mascarin's next tally made the score 11-0 Wellington with 6:54 left in the third period. The Dukes had gained a power play chance when Connor Annett was whistled for spearing. Andrew Coupland assisted on the tally.

Wellington forced Lindsay's goaltenders to work between the pipes, taking 44 shots and forcing 32 saves. Boyd Diclemente made 13 stops and Brett Chandler made 19. The Dukes stifled the Muskies' power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. Wellington's defense was surprisingly good. The Dukes allow 2.4 goals per game. Wellington surpassed its usual scoring output this season. The Dukes have scored at the pace of 3.5 goals per game during the current campaign. The defensemen of Wellington were also effective in Lindsay's zone, and came away with two goals.

Wellington also got points from Luc Brown, who also tallied one goal and one assist, Jeff Christensen, who also had one goal and two assists, Chase St Aubin, who also grabbed one goal and one assist, Marco Azzano, who also finished with one goal and one assist, Abbott Girduckis, who also registered one goal and one assist, Ben Sokay, who also had one goal and one assist, Griffin McCarty, who also racked up one goal and one assist, and Devito, who also tallied one goal and two assists. Wellington also got a goal from Joe McKeown as well. More assists for Wellington came via Jacob Panetta, who had one and Jacob Hetherington, Josh Supryka, and Brandon Kosik, who contributed two each.

The Muskies were often in penalty trouble, totaling eight minors and one major for 41 minutes in penalty time. Lindsay surpassed its season average of 23.0 penalty minutes per game. The Muskies did not reach the goal total they have come to expect this season. Lindsay puts an average of 3.4 pucks into the net per game. The Muskies kept the Dukes' goalie busy throughout the game, and Welsh made 32 saves on 32 shots.

Wellington totaled 17 minutes in penalty time with six minors and one major and went 3-for-10 on the power play. For the Dukes, Francesco Tolfa was ejected from the game. Lindsay registered zero goals on seven power play opportunities. For the Muskies, Kristopher Diclemente and Troy Oakley were ejected from the contest.
