North York outlasts Orangeville, 4-2

The game between the North York Rangers and the Orangeville Flyers was tight through all 60 minutes, but in the end North York emerged with a 4-2 win.

The Rangers gained the winning advantage on a goal by Ryan Takamatsu 9:34 into the third period and hung on until final buzzer.

Takamatsu had a great game for North York, netting two goals.

Orangeville was unable to stop the Rangers from sending pucks towards the net, and North York eventually piled up 39 shots on goal. The Rangers were forced to rely heavily on their penalty kill unit throughout the game, as they racked up 18 penalty minutes.

North York also got a goal from Michael Morgan as well. In addition, North York received assists from Jeremy Szabo and Will Reilly, who each chipped in one and Ted Hunt, Gabriel Valenzuela, and Matthew Whittaker, who contributed two each.

The Flyers forced North York goalie Gianluca Baggetta to work between the pipes, taking 37 shots. Team could not crack the Rangers' penalty kill and was held to two power play goals while having nine opportunities to play with the man advantage.

Orangeville was helped by Ian Nichols, who finished with one goal. Nichols scored on the power play 17:50 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Orangeville. The Flyers had gotten the advantage when North York's Max Novick was sent off for roughing after whistle. Derek Topatigh picked up the assist. Orangeville also got points from Ryan Anton, who also registered one goal and one assist. Other players who recorded assists for Orangeville were Connor Stack and Lucas Smilsky, who each chipped in one.

The Rangers' Baggetta stopped 35 shots out of the 37 that he faced. North York registered one goal on seven power play opportunities. The Rangers ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Brett Seldon was ejected from the game. Wyatt Pickrell rejected 35 shots on goal for Orangeville. The Flyers incurred 22 minutes in penalty time with six minors. For Orangeville, Peter Stepanis was ejected from the game.
