Cobourg survives Whitby comeback, wins 4-3

The Cobourg Cougars survived a determined comeback attempt by the Whitby Fury on the way to a 4-3 win.

Cobourg made the score 4-1 on a goal by Taylor Gauld at 14:58 in the second period, and Whitby got as close as 4-3 when Jeremy Wu scored 9:59 into the third period.

Gauld had a great game for the Cougars, netting two goals.

The Fury were unable to stop Cobourg from sending pucks towards the net, and the Cougars eventually piled up 38 shots on goal. Cobourg was forced to rely heavily on their penalty kill unit throughout the game, as it racked up 24 penalty minutes.

Cobourg additionally got points from Connor Armour, who also grabbed one goal and one assist. Liam Grande also scored for Cobourg. Other players who recorded assists for Cobourg were Ryan OGrady, Jacob Friend, Riley Stillman, and Connor Hogg, who contributed one each.

Whitby forced the Cougars goalie Austin Washkurak to work between the pipes, taking 34 shots.

The Fury were led by Davis Kuksis, who finished with one goal and one assist. Kuksis scored 18:20 into the first period to make the score 1-1. Patrick McAuliffe picked up the assist. Whitby also got a goal from William Ward as well. In addition, Whitby received assists from Zack Elson, Luke Keenan, and Scott Kirton, who each chipped in one.

Cobourg's Washkurak stopped 31 shots out of the 34 that he faced. The Cougars registered two goals on six power play opportunities. Tyler Feaver made 34 saves for Whitby on 38 shots. The Fury incurred 16 minutes in penalty time with eight minors. For Whitby, McAuliffe was ejected from the game.
