Thompson's hat trick boosts Whitby over Milton, 7-2

The Milton Icehawks could not stop the Whitby Fury's Henry Thompson, who tallied a hat trick in a 7-2 win.

Thompson notched his first tally 2:58 into the first period. He then added goals at 15:55 into the first and at 12:30 into the third.

Whitby forced Milton's goalies to work in net, taking 53 shots and forcing 46 saves. Tyler Lewis made one stops and Cosimo Lazzarino made 45. The Fury put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow the Icehawks to score on any of their four power plays. Whitby bested its season scoring average. This season, the Fury average 4.3 goals per contest.

Whitby also got points from Ryan Kirkup, who also had two goals and three assists to lead the team in points and Mitch Emerson, who also finished with one goal and two assists. Whitby also got a goal from Patrick McAuliffe as well. Other players who recorded assists for Whitby were Jeremy Wu, who had two and Zack Elson, Jesse Dunn, Daniel Barnes, and Tyler Feaver, who each chipped in one.

Milton found itself short handed often, totaling 28 penalty minutes and allowing eight power plays.

Others who scored for Milton included Lucas Martellacci, Mitch Graham, and Steven Goeree, who each put in one.

Feaver recorded 25 saves for Whitby. The Fury ended with 13 minutes in penalty time with four minors and one major. For Whitby, Justin Brand was ejected from the game. The Icehawks ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Jake Baird was ejected from the game.
