The Whitby Fury's Henry Thompson scored 1:07 into overtime to beat the Newmarket Hurricanes, 3-2 (OT). Whitby stifled Newmarket's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. In addition, Whitby received assists from Ryan Kirkup, who had two and Jonathan OHara, Matt Fischer, Scott Kirton, and Jeremy Wu, who each chipped in one. The Hurricanes' penalty killing units received substantial work throughout the game as Newmarket finished with 24 penalty minutes. The Hurricanes were led by Nik Coric, who finished with two goals. Coric scored the first of his two goals at 14:05 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Newmarket. Matt Pyz picked up the assist. Coric's next tally made the score 2-2 with 5:42 left in the third period. Sam Hu assisted on the tally. Other players who recorded assists for Newmarket were Taylor Joseph and Anthony Salemi, who contributed one each. The Fury's Tyler Feaver stopped 21 shots out of the 23 that he faced. Whitby incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors. Tyler Richardson rejected 24 shots on goal for Newmarket. The Hurricanes registered zero goals on three power play opportunities.
