Mississauga falls to Wellington after surprising comeback

The Wellington Dukes rallied from three goals down to secure a 5-3 win over the Mississauga Chargers.

Wellington never led in the game until netting the game winner. The Dukes trailed 3-0 after a goal by Mississauga's Joseph Molinaro at 16:00 in the first period. Wellington knotted things up at 3-3 on a goal by Chase St Aubin at 8:23 in the second period. The Dukes netted the game winner at 13:07 in the third period on a goal by St Aubin.

Abbott Girduckis was all over the ice for Wellington, as he tallied two goals in the win. Girduckis found the back of the net 16:52 into the first period to make the score 3-1 Mississauga and again while 17:56 into the third to make the score 5-3 Wellington.

The Dukes kept the Chargers' goalie busy throughout the game, and Alex Lepore made 30 saves on 35 shots. Wellington found the back of the net more times than it usually has this season. The Dukes have scored at the pace of 2.3 goals per game during the current campaign.

Others who scored for Wellington included Jacob Panetta and Nick Devito, who each put in one. Other players who recorded assists for Wellington were Andrew Coupland, Jacob Hetherington, Luc Brown, Brandon Kosik, Joe McKeown, Erick Delaurentis, and Ben Sokay, who contributed one each.

Mississauga stifled Wellington's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man.

The Chargers were helped by Vince Figliomeni, who racked up one goal. Figliomeni scored 7:31 into the first period to make the score 2-0 Mississauga. Daniel Volpe picked up the assist. Mississauga also got a goal from Austin Broadhurst as well. In addition, Mississauga received assists from Aaron Dutra, who had one.

Taylor Welsh rejected 26 shots on goal for the Dukes. Wellington incurred four minutes in penalty time with two minors. Mississauga incurred 18 minutes in penalty time with four minors.
