Milton falls to Burlington in overtime, 6-5 (OT)

The Burlington Cougars' Jack Jeffers scored 2:11 into overtime to beat the Milton Icehawks, 6-5 (OT).

Milton fell victim to a deadly Burlington power play, which ripped the Icehawks for four goals.

The Cougars forced Milton's goalies to work all game long, launching 38 shots and forcing 32 saves. Cosimo Lazzarino made 27 stops and Tyler Lewis made five. Burlington outdid its season average for goals scored. The Cougars have scored at the pace of 3.3 goals per game during the current campaign. Burlington's penalty killing units received substantial work throughout the game as the Cougars finished with 21 penalty minutes. Burlington got an offensive boost from its blueliners, who contributed two goals during the game.

The Cougars were led by Mike Choma, who racked up two goals. Choma scored the first of his two goals at 3:00 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Burlington. James Thorpe picked up the assist. Choma's next tally made the score 5-5 with 10:30 left in the third period. Burlington had gained a power play chance when Jake Baird was whistled for hooking. Kyle West provided the assist. Burlington also got points from David Thomson, who also had one goal and one assist. Burlington also had goals scored by Louis Vlahakis and Dante Felicetti, who each put in one. In addition, Burlington received assists from Steve Mariani and Ben Morris, who each chipped in one and Ben Scheel and Spencer Herbst, who contributed two each.

Team's forwards weren't the only contributers offensively, and the team's defensemen showcased their scoring touch with two goals. The Icehawks found themselves short handed often, totaling 40 penalty minutes and allowing 15 power plays.

Milton was led by Alex Riche, who tallied two goals and one assist. Riche scored the first of his two goals on the power play at 9:19 into the first period to make the score 2-1 Burlington. The Icehawks had taken the advantage when the Cougars' Morris got sent off for roughing. Baird picked up the assist. Riche's next tally on the power play made the score 4-3 Burlington with 3:08 left in the second period. Milton was on a disadvantage when Jordan Anderson went off the ice for goalie interference. Baird provided the assist. Milton additionally got points from Johnathon Schaefer, who also finished with one goal and one assist. Others who scored for Milton included Anthony Baxter and Lucas Martellacci, who scored one goal each. More assists for Milton came via Mitch Graham, who had two and Sean Perichak and Mitch Rooney, who each chipped in one.

Evgueni Makarski made 25 saves for Burlington on 30 shots. The Cougars ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Willy Paul was ejected from the game. The Icehawks registered one goal on five power play opportunities.
