Burlington survives Lindsay comeback, wins 6-4

The Lindsay Muskies tried to dig themselves out of a three-goal hole, but the Burlington Cougars held on for a 6-4 victory.

A goal by Wyatt Trainer put Burlington up 6-3 in the third period, but Lindsay pulled to within two on Connor Annett's tally 18:28 into the third period.

Referees had their hands full with a major incident at 11:15 into the second period. Four fighting penalties were dished out along with two game misconducts.

The Cougars kept the Muskies' goalie busy throughout the game, and Brett Chandler made 30 saves on 36 shots. Burlington outdid its season average for goals scored. The Cougars average 3.0 goals per game. Burlington's penalty killing units received substantial work throughout the game as the Cougars finished with 27 penalty minutes. Burlington's defensemen played an important role in the offense, chipping in two goals.

The Cougars were led by Matt Holmes, who registered one goal and one assist. Holmes scored 1:42 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Burlington. Ben Scheel picked up the assist. Burlington additionally got points from Scheel, who also grabbed one goal and one assist. Others who scored for Burlington included David Thomson, Sean McLaren, and Nathan Fiorino, who scored one goal each. Other players who recorded assists for Burlington were Jack Jeffers, who had two and Steve Mariani, Louis Vlahakis, Ben Morris, and Jacob Ovens, who each chipped in one.

Lindsay stifled Burlington's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. The Cougars were unable to stop the Muskies from sending pucks towards the net, and Lindsay eventually piled up 43 shots on goal. The Muskies were often in penalty trouble, as it ended with five minors and two majors for 30 minutes in penalty time.

Lindsay also got points from Stefan von Engelbrechten, who also racked up one goal and one assist. Lindsay also had goals scored by Michael Spataro and Mathew Lewis, who each put in one. In addition, Lindsay received assists from Joseph Vocino, who had one and James Allen and John Macdonald, who each chipped in two.

Cammeron Radford made 39 saves for Burlington on 43 shots. The Cougars registered zero goals on seven power play opportunities. Team's Ryan Sullivan, McLaren, and Fiorino were slapped with misconducts and ejected from the game. Lindsay registered three goals on six power play opportunities. For the Muskies, Brock Spear and Troy Oakley were ejected from the contest.
