Thompson's big game bests North York in 5-2 Whitby win

Henry Thompson had two goals and one assist to lead the Whitby Fury to a 5-2 victory over the North York Rangers.

Thompson found the back of the net 12:00 into the first period to make the score 3-1 Whitby and again while 32 seconds into the third to make the score 5-3 Whitby.

Whitby additionally got points from Ryan Kirkup, who also registered one goal and two assists and Mitch Emerson, who also tallied one goal and two assists to lead the team in points. Whitby also had goals scored by William Ward and Matt Fischer, who scored one goal each. Other players who recorded assists for Whitby were Patrick McAuliffe, Scott Kirton, Jeremy Wu, Justin Brand, and Davis Kuksis, who each chipped in one.

North York was held below its usual level of production. The Rangers average 5.0 goals per game. North York kept Whitby's goalie busy throughout the game, and Tyler Feaver made 31 saves on 33 shots.

The Rangers were helped by Jake Harris, who tallied one goal. Harris scored on the power play 15:17 into the second period to make the score 4-3 Whitby. North York had gotten the advantage when the Fury's Emerson was sent off for high sticking. Zack Fisher picked up the assist. North York also got points from Fisher, who also had one goal and one assist. Matthew Whittaker also scored for North York. In addition, North York received assists from Gabriel Valenzuela and Will Reilly, who contributed one each.

Whitby incurred 14 minutes in penalty time with seven minors. The Rangers' Gianluca Baggetta stopped 19 shots out of the 24 that he faced. North York incurred four minutes in penalty time with two minors.
