Toronto Lakeshore holds on for 5-4 win against Aurora

The Toronto Lakeshore Patriots survived a determined comeback attempt by the Aurora Tigers on the way to a 5-4 win.

Toronto Lakeshore took a 5-2 lead during the second period, only to have Aurora storm back on a Dylan Sikura goal 8:17 into the third period to pull to one goal down.

The win gave the Patriots a 2-0 lead in the best of seven series.

Toronto Lakeshore got the win behind a great game by Marcus Rose, who had two goals and one assist. Rose scored the first of his two goals at 18:15 into the first period to make the score 1-1. Jacob Hayhurst provided the assist. Rose's next tally made the score 4-1 Toronto Lakeshore with 15:25 left in the second period. Cory Lauer assisted on the tally.

The Patriots forced the Tigers' netminders to work in net, racking up 34 shots and forcing 29 saves. Andy Munroe made 15 stops and Kevin Entmaa made 14.

Toronto Lakeshore also got points from Andreas Tsogkas, who also registered one goal and one assist. Others who scored for Toronto Lakeshore included Doug Bonar and Rory Bell, who each put in one. More assists for Toronto Lakeshore came via Luke Carter, who had two and Niko Kovachis, Nicholas Ursitti, and Michael Prapavessis, who each chipped in one.

Aurora kept Toronto Lakeshore's goalie busy throughout the game, and Evan Buitenhuis made 33 saves on 37 shots. The Tigers did not rack up many penalties in the contest, totaling just one minor for two minutes in penalty time.

Aurora was led by Curtis Warren, who racked up two goals. Warren scored the first of his two goals at 12:54 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Aurora. Johnny Curran provided the assist. Warren's next tally made the score 5-3 Toronto Lakeshore with 12:36 left in the third period. The Tigers earned a power play opportunity when Prapavessis was put in the box for holding. Curran picked up the assist. Robert Angiolella also scored for Aurora. In addition, Aurora received assists from Kory Kennedy, who had two and Taylor McCloy, Eric Williams, and Mihkel Poldma, who contributed one each.

The Patriots incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors. Aurora registered one goal on four power play opportunities.
