Waterloo outlasts Stratford, 5-4Allman Arena Sat, Apr 05, 2014 Story by Narrative Science.
The game between the Waterloo Siskins and the Stratford Cullitons was tight through all 60 minutes, but in the end Waterloo emerged with a 5-4 win. Each team kept the other at bay throughout the game, and Christian Mroczkowski secured the win for the Siskins with a goal in the third period. The win by Waterloo clinched the best of seven series at 4-2. Mroczkowski was all over the ice for the Siskins, as he tallied two goals and one assist in the win. Mroczkowski scored the first of his two goals at 7:21 into the third period to make the score 4-4. Eric Cimino assisted on the tally. Mroczkowski's next tally made the score 5-4 Waterloo with 6:41 left in the third period. Waterloo also had goals scored by Matt Martin, Troy Lajeunesse, and Danny Hanlon, who scored one goal each. Other players who recorded assists for Waterloo were Andrew Brubacher, who had one and Evan Buehler and Ryan Taylor, who each chipped in two. Stratford forced Waterloo goalie Leo Lazarev to work between the pipes, taking 38 shots. The Cullitons were helped by Tyson Baker, who registered one goal. Baker scored on the power play 9:27 into the first period to make the score 2-1 Stratford. A high sticking penalty on Martin had put Stratford on the power play. Shane O Brien picked up the assist. Stratford additionally got points from Deven Kropf, who also finished with one goal and one assist. Others who scored for Stratford included Jake Pleon and Drew Gross, who each put in one. More assists for Stratford came via Trevor Sauder, who had two and Mitch Brooks, Ryker Killins, and Nathan Templeman, who contributed one each. Leo Lazarev made 34 saves for the Siskins on 38 shots. Waterloo incurred 22 minutes in penalty time with six minors. The Cullitons' Nicholas Caldwell stopped 20 shots out of the 25 that he faced. Stratford incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors.
