Stratford stifles Waterloo's comeback, gains 3-1 victoryAllman Arena Fri, Mar 28, 2014 Story by Narrative Science.
The Waterloo Siskins almost clawed their way back from a three-goal deficit, but the Stratford Cullitons managed to pull out a 3-1 win in the end. Stratford led by three goals at one point and ended with the victory. The largest advantage in the game came when the Cullitons' Trevor Sauder scored at 3:50 in the second period to put Stratford up 3-0. With the win, the Cullitons evened the series at 1-1 in the best of seven showdown. Stratford was led by goalie Nicholas Caldwell, who finished with 28 saves while allowing one goal. Caldwell certainly lowered his goals against average, which was 1.94 entering the contest. The Cullitons were led by Ryker Killins, who racked up one goal. Killins scored 11:44 into the first period to make the score 2-0 Stratford. Shane O Brien picked up the assist. Stratford's offense rang up 40 shots on Waterloo's net. Team could not crack the Siskins' penalty kill and was held to one power play goal while having 10 opportunities to play with the man advantage. Stratford additionally got points from Deven Kropf, who also had one goal and one assist and Sauder, who also registered one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. More assists for Stratford came via Josh Miller, who had one and Mitch Brooks, who had two. Waterloo was led by Evan Buehler, who scored the team's only goal. Buehler scored on the power play 5:34 into the second period to make the score 3-1 Stratford. The Siskins had gotten the advantage when the Cullitons' Trevor MacDonald was sent off for head contact. Ryan Taylor assisted on the tally. Stratford ended with 29 minutes in penalty time with seven minors and one major. The Cullitons ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Tyson Baker was ejected from the game. Leo Lazarev recorded 37 saves for Waterloo. The Siskins incurred 34 minutes in penalty time with seven minors.
