Lazarev leads Waterloo to shutout victory over StratfordWaterloo Rec Complex Thu, Mar 27, 2014 Story by Narrative Science.
Leo Lazarev made 37 saves to complete the shutout and led the Waterloo Siskins to a 4-0 win against the Stratford Cullitons. The win gave Waterloo a 1-0 lead in the best of seven series. The Siskins were paced by Jarrett Parker, who tallied one goal. Parker scored 11:29 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Waterloo. Connor Bodnar assisted on the tally. Waterloo's penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on three Stratford power plays. Waterloo also got points from Evan Buehler, who also racked up one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Others who scored for Waterloo included Mitch Atkins and Ryan Taylor, who scored one goal each. In addition, Waterloo received assists from Eric Cimino, who had two and Matthew Mah, Thomas Carey, Andrew Brubacher, and Danny Hanlon, who each chipped in one. Stratford's offense rang up 37 shots on the Siskins' net. Penalties took their toll on the Cullitons, as their penalty kill unit let in two power play goals. Waterloo incurred 18 minutes in penalty time with four minors. Stratford's starting goalie, Nicholas Caldwell, made 18 saves and finished with the loss before he was taken out in favor of Michael Pesendorfer, who stopped six shots. The Cullitons ended with 11 minutes in penalty time with three minors and one major.
