Leamington rides Wheaton to victory over Chatham, 3-1

Trevor Wheaton had a standout game with 26 saves, and the Leamington Flyers beat the Chatham Maroons 3-1.

After the loss made the series score 3-1 in the best of seven series, Chatham faces elimination next time out.

Leamington was led by Tony Spidalieri, who grabbed one goal. Spidalieri scored on the power play 10:45 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Leamington. The Flyers earned a power play opportunity when Jared Dennis was put in the box for roughing. Alex Seguin assisted on the tally.

Leamington excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in three chances. The Flyers' offense rang up 31 shots on the Maroons' net.

Others who scored for Leamington included Cole Chevalier and Dylan Seguin, who scored one goal each. In addition, Leamington received assists from Daniel Robertson, who had one and Mitchell Amante, who had three.

Chatham was led by Kyle Brothers, who scored the team's only goal. Brothers scored 11:42 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Chatham. Steven Szekesy provided the assist.

Leamington incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors. Jacob Keogh rejected 28 shots on goal for the Maroons. Chatham incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors.
