Caledonia beats St. Catharines 4-3 after comeback scareHaldimand Center Wed, Apr 02, 2014 Story by Narrative Science.
The St. Catharines Falcons tried to dig themselves out of a three-goal hole, but the Caledonia Corvairs held on for a 4-3 victory. Caledonia took a 4-1 lead during the third period, only to have St. Catharines storm back on a Tommy Barszcz goal 13:03 into the third period to pull to one goal down. The win by the Corvairs clinched the best of seven series at 4-1. Caledonia's penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on three St. Catharines power plays. The Corvairs were helped by Todd Ratchford, who registered one goal. Ratchford scored 2:09 into the second period to make the score 2-0 Caledonia. Mitch Brown picked up the assist. Caledonia also got a goal from Cody Brown as well. More assists for Caledonia came via Connor Murphy, Connor Patton, and Brier Jonathan, who each chipped in one and Spencer Gourlay and Jordan Peacock, who contributed two each. Caledonia was unable to stop the Falcons from sending pucks towards the net, and St. Catharines eventually piled up 32 shots on goal. St. Catharines additionally got points from Kyle Woodhouse, who also tallied one goal and one assist. Yanni Rallis also scored for St. Catharines. In addition, St. Catharines received assists from Ryan Doucette, who had one and Aaron Taylor, who had two. Colin Furlong rejected 29 shots on goal for the Corvairs. Caledonia incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors. Knick Dawe made 24 saves for the Falcons on 28 shots. St. Catharines incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors.
