Chatham holds on for 4-3 win against LaSalle

The LaSalle Vipers tried to dig themselves out of a two-goal hole, but the Chatham Maroons held on for a 4-3 victory.

Chatham took a 4-2 lead during the third period, only to have LaSalle storm back on a Blake Jones goal 11:20 into the third period to pull to one goal down.

The win gave the Maroons a 1-0 lead in the best of seven series.

Chatham pulled out the victory even though it was hit with 14 penalty minutes.

The Maroons were helped by Adam Arseneault, who grabbed one goal. Arseneault scored 5:26 into the third period to make the score Chatham. Connor Doran assisted on the tally. Chatham additionally got points from Michael Verboom, who also tallied one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Chatham also had goals scored by Kyle Brothers and Brayden Hopkins, who scored one goal each. Other players who recorded assists for Chatham were Nate Pietens, Steven Szekesy, Charlie Izaguirre, and Tanner Ferguson, who contributed one each.

The Vipers' offense rang up 40 shots on Chatham's net.

LaSalle was helped by Devon Paliani, who had one goal. Paliani scored on the power play 4:14 into the third period to make the score 3-2 Chatham. The Vipers had gained a power play chance when Ian Faubert was whistled for interference. Aaron Luchuk provided the assist. Nathan Veres also scored for LaSalle. In addition, LaSalle received assists from Mark Manchurek, who had two and Bill Eansor and Bryce Mayea, who each chipped in one.

Jacob Keogh recorded 37 saves for the Maroons. Chatham registered two goals on four power play opportunities. Paolo Battisti made 25 saves for LaSalle on 29 shots. The Vipers incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors.
