Furlong leads Caledonia to shutout victory over Thorold

The Caledonia Corvairs used a sparkling performance by Colin Furlong to take down the Thorold Blackhawks, as the netminder did not allow a goal in Caledonia's 4-0 shutout victory.

After the loss made the series score 3-1 in the best of seven series, Thorold faces elimination next time out.

The Blackhawks' power play was ineffective against the Corvairs' penalty kill, which allowed zero goals while shorthanded.

Caledonia was led by Jordan Peacock, who tallied one goal. Peacock scored on the power play 6:06 into the third period to make the score 1-0 Caledonia. The Corvairs had taken the advantage when Thorold's Dylan Burdick got sent off for high sticking. Ryan Blunt provided the assist.

Caledonia excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in eight chances. The Corvairs' offense rang up 34 shots on the Blackhawks' net.

Caledonia additionally got points from Matt Quilty, who also grabbed one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Caledonia also had goals scored by Kyler Nixon and Cosimo Fontana, who each put in one. Other players who recorded assists for Caledonia were Cody Brown, who had two and Ryan Moran, Spencer Gourlay, Connor Murphy, and Brier Jonathan, who each chipped in one.

Thorold kept Caledonia's goalie busy throughout the game, and Furlong made 37 saves on 37 shots. The Blackhawks struggled on the penalty kill, allowing the Corvairs to score three power play goals on five chances.

Caledonia incurred 32 minutes in penalty time with six minors. Brendan Polasek made 30 saves for Thorold on 34 shots. The Blackhawks ended with 19 minutes in penalty time with two minors and one major. For Thorold, Burdick was ejected from the game.
