The Grimsby Peach Kings survived a determined comeback attempt by the Dunnville Jr. Mudcats on the way to a 6-4 win. A goal by Jeromy Hopkins put Grimsby up 6-2 in the second period, but Dunnville pulled to within two on Evan Huckalo's tally 19:35 into the third period. The win gave the Peach Kings a 1-0 lead in the best of seven series. Grimsby was led by Matthew Paonessa, who grabbed three goals. Grimsby additionally got points from Andrew McMurtrie, who also had one goal and one assist. Grimsby also got a goal from Andrew Kolodzey as well. In addition, Grimsby received assists from Aidan McCreadie, Jordan McCarl, and Brennan Smith, who contributed one a piece and Trevor McEneny and Aiden Board, who each chipped in two. The Jr. Mudcats' offense rang up 37 shots on the Peach Kings' net. Dunnville was led by Landon Minor, who registered one goal and two assists. Minor scored 3:49 into the second period to make the score 4-2 Grimsby. Davis Hart picked up the assist. Dunnville also had goals scored by Austin Golding and Steven Czepek, who scored one goal each. Other players who recorded assists for Dunnville were Mack Steele, who had two. Josh Astorino made 33 saves for Grimsby on 37 shots. The Peach Kings incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors. The Jr. Mudcats' starting goalie, Josh Rosettani, made 12 saves and finished with the loss before he was taken out in favor of Jesse Schoeman, who stopped 10 shots. Dunnville incurred 34 minutes in penalty time with seven minors. For the Jr. Mudcats, Hayden Molen was ejected from the game. |
