Koonce's goals lift Flint to 5-2 victory over DallasFox Valley NHL Rink Fri, Mar 28, 2014 Story by Narrative Science.
Behind a great game by Zach Koonce, who had two goals, the Flint Junior Generals defeated the Dallas Jr. Stars, 5-2. Koonce scored at 2:14 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Flint and again while 17:16 into the first to make the score 2-0 Flint.The win gave Flint a 1-0 lead in the best of one series. The Junior Generals kept Dallas' goalie busy throughout the game, and Chris Mallon made 48 saves on 53 shots. Flint also got points from Austin Fletcher, who also racked up two goals and two assists to lead the team in points. Ryan Burr also scored for Flint. In addition, Flint received assists from Conor Durgan, who had three and Mark McGee and Trevor Benaglio, who each chipped in one. The Jr. Stars were helped by Blake McIntyre, who finished with one goal. McIntyre scored on the power play 4:48 into the second period to make the score 3-1 Flint. Dallas had gotten the advantage when Flint's Fletcher was sent off for tripping. Corey Burns picked up the assist. Dallas also got a goal from Stephen Smith as well. More assists for Dallas came via Jake Gevaart, who had two. Andrew Wagner made 10 saves before being replaced by Anders Franke, who took the win and made seven saves. The Junior Generals totaled 15 minutes in penalty time with five minors and one major and went 1-for-6 on the power play. The Jr. Stars totaled 17 minutes in penalty time with six minors and one major and went 1-for-3 on the power play.
