Caledonia uses fast start to beat Port Colborne, 14-2

A four-goal first period deficit cost the Port Colborne Pirates, which could not recover and fell to the Caledonia Corvairs, 14-2.

After the loss made the series score 3-0 in the best of seven series, Port Colborne faces elimination next time out.

Caledonia got the win with help from a great game by Jake Brown, who had two goals and one assist. Brown scored the first of his two goals at 7:29 into the first period to make the score 2-0 Caledonia. Scott Dorian picked up the assist. Brown's next tally made the score 11-2 Caledonia with 14:28 left in the third period. The Corvairs had taken the advantage when the Pirates' Quinn Geddes got sent off for head contact. Ryan Blunt assisted on the tally.

Caledonia pulled out the victory even though it was hit with 36 penalty minutes.

The Corvairs' offense rang up 67 shots on Port Colborne's net. The defensemen of Caledonia were also effective in the Pirates' zone, and came away with two goals.

Caledonia also got points from Spencer Gourlay, who also had one goal and two assists, Jordan Peacock, who also registered one goal and three assists, Cody Brown, who also tallied one goal and three assists, Connor Murphy, who also racked up one goal and two assists, Kyler Nixon, who also had two goals and one assist, Cosimo Fontana, who also registered one goal and one assist, and Jeffrey Malott, who also tallied three goals and two assists to lead the team in points. Caledonia also got a goal from Matt Quilty as well. In addition, Caledonia received assists from Mitch Brown, who had one and Brier Jonathan, Chance MacDonald, and Greg Christmas, who contributed two a piece.

Port Colborne had trouble converting on the power play advantage, managing just one goal on nine chances.

The Pirates were led by Brock Ackerman, who finished with one goal. Ackerman scored on the power play 16:23 into the second period to make the score 8-2 Caledonia. Port Colborne earned a power play opportunity when Jayme Forslund was put in the box for interference. Mitch Moriarity *APJ picked up the assist. Matthew White also scored for Port Colborne. Other players who recorded assists for Port Colborne were Camden Freeman *APJ, Spencer Fox, and Justin Bell *APJ, who each chipped in one.

The Corvairs' Colin Furlong stopped 14 shots out of the 16 that he faced. Caledonia registered two goals on six power play opportunities. Jake Danson made 53 saves for the Pirates on 67 shots. Port Colborne ended with 39 minutes in penalty time with two minors and one major. For the Pirates, Ryall Ledyard and Geddes were ejected from the contest.
