GAME RECAP

Aurora uses early goal to top Newmarket, 2-1

Aurora Community Centre    Sat, Mar 01, 2014

Calvin Higley gave the Aurora Tigers the lead in the first period, and the Newmarket Hurricanes was never able to catch up in a close game that ended 2-1.

Aurora took over the lead for good with a goal by Higley at 11:59 in the first period. Tyler Boston provided the assist.

After the loss made the series score 3-0 in the best of seven series, Newmarket faces elimination next time out.

Higley had two goals to lead the Tigers to victory.

Aurora's Kevin Entmaa was a brick wall in net, as he came up with 26 saves and let only one puck past him. The solid play of Entmaa will be reflected in his goals against average, which pre-game was 1.72.

The Tigers' penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on three Newmarket power plays. The Hurricanes were unable to stop Aurora from sending pucks towards the net, and the Tigers eventually piled up 39 shots on goal.

More assists for Aurora came via Austin Rigney, Taylor McCloy, and Dylan Sikura, who each chipped in one.

Newmarket was led by Nik Coric, who scored the team's only goal. Coric scored 11:13 into the first period to make the score 1-1. Kyle Stephan assisted on the tally.

Aurora incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors. Jophrey Gregoire recorded 37 saves for the Hurricanes. Newmarket incurred four minutes in penalty time with two minors.
