Aurora wins tough contest against Newmarket, 3-2Ray Twinney Rink 1 Thu, Feb 27, 2014 Story by Narrative Science.
The game between the Aurora Tigers and the Newmarket Hurricanes was tight through all 60 minutes, but in the end Aurora emerged with a 3-2 win. No lead was more than one goal during the contest, and the winning goal was scored by Michael Laidley at 17:24 of the third period. The win gave the Tigers a 2-0 lead in the best of seven series. Laidley had two goals to lead Aurora to victory. Newmarket was unable to stop the Tigers from sending pucks towards the net, and Aurora eventually piled up 32 shots on goal. Kory Kennedy also scored for Aurora. Other players who recorded assists for Aurora were Michael Keenan, Austin Rigney, Noah Delmas, Dylan Sikura, Eric Williams, and Adam DiBrina, who each chipped in one. The Hurricanes were helped by Ian Farrell, who had one goal. Farrell scored 13:07 into the second period to make the score 1-1. Brandon Francisco picked up the assist. Newmarket also got a goal from Trevor Petersen as well. More assists for Newmarket came via Jordan Oshowy, Justin Maiolino, and Ryan Kruss, who contributed one each. Kevin Entmaa rejected 23 shots on goal for the Tigers. Aurora incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors. For the Tigers, Mihkel Poldma was ejected from the game. Newmarket's Jophrey Gregoire stopped 29 shots out of the 30 that he faced. The Hurricanes incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors.
