GAME RECAP

Aurora rips Newmarket, 6-1

Aurora Community Centre    Wed, Feb 26, 2014

The Newmarket Hurricanes had trouble finding ways to stop the Aurora Tigers, which beat Hurricanes, 6-1.

The win gave Aurora a 1-0 lead in the best of seven series.

The Tigers got the win with help from a great game by Robert Angiolella, who had two goals and one assist. Angiolella scored the first of his two goals on the power play at 9:38 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Aurora. Aurora had gotten the advantage when Newmarket's Jake Stirling was sent off for hooking. Eric Williams assisted on the tally. Angiolella's next tally on the power play made the score 4-1 Aurora with 19 seconds left in the second period. An interference penalty on Ryan Kruss had put the Tigers on the power play. Adam DiBrina picked up the assist.

Aurora excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in four chances. The Tigers' offense rang up 38 shots on the Hurricanes' net.

Aurora also got points from Austin Rigney, who also racked up one goal and one assist, Michael Laidley, who also registered one goal and two assists, and Curtis Warren, who also tallied one goal and one assist. Dylan Sikura also scored for Aurora. In addition, Aurora received assists from Kory Kennedy, who had two and Taylor McCloy, Liam Neuman, and Calvin Higley, who contributed one each.

Penalties took their toll on Newmarket, as its penalty kill unit let in three power play goals.

The Hurricanes were led by Trevor Petersen, who scored the team's only goal. Petersen scored 14:45 into the first period to make the score 1-1. Justin Maiolino assisted on the tally.

Aurora's Kevin Entmaa stopped 24 shots out of the 25 that he faced. The Tigers incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors. Bo Bessette made 32 saves for Newmarket on 38 shots. The Hurricanes incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors.
