Niagara Falls falls to Welland in overtime, 4-3 (OT)Gale Centre Fri, Feb 28, 2014 Story by Narrative Science.
The Welland Jr. Canadians' Brayden Stortz scored 8:26 into overtime to beat the Niagara Falls Canucks, 4-3 (OT). With the win, Welland evened the series at 1-1 in the best of seven showdown. Although the Jr. Canadians was up by as many as two goals in the third period, Niagara Falls kept the game interesting by staging a comeback that ultimately fell short. The Canucks pulled to within 3-2 on a power play goal by Marcus Michalski at 14:47 in the third period. Stortz had a great game for Welland, netting two goals. Niagara Falls was unable to stop the Jr. Canadians from sending pucks towards the net, and Welland eventually piled up 37 shots on goal. The Jr. Canadians got an offensive boost from their blueliners, who contributed two goals during the game. Welland also got points from Jimmy Sheehan, who also registered one goal and one assist. Welland also got a goal from Gabe Ruggi as well. Other players who recorded assists for Welland were Francois Plamondon, Cole McKnight, Bryan Komasara, and Tyler Stranges, who each chipped in one. The defensemen of the Canucks were also effective in Welland's zone, and came away with two goals. Niagara Falls additionally got points from Cole Vinnai, who also tallied one goal and one assist. In addition, Niagara Falls received assists from MacKenzie Wood, Johnny Curran, Cole Langan, and Brooker Muir, who contributed one a piece. Jeffrey Heartwell made 26 saves for the Jr. Canadians on 29 shots. Welland incurred 22 minutes in penalty time with six minors. Emerson Verrier rejected 33 shots on goal for Niagara Falls. The Canucks incurred 20 minutes in penalty time with five minors. For Niagara Falls, Denis Creighton was ejected from the game.
