Benilde-St. Margarets holds on for 2-1 win against Wayzata

The Wayzata Trojans tried their best to erase a two-goal deficit, but the Benilde-St. Margarets Red Knights would not be denied the victory and hung on to win, 2-1.

Benilde-St. Margarets made the score 2-0 on a goal by Evan Fleming at 6:50 in the second period, and Wayzata got as close as 2-1 when Alex Stevens scored 16:02 into the third period.

The win gave the Red Knights a 1-0 lead in the best of one series.

Benilde-St. Margarets was led by Fleming, who registered one goal and one assist.

The Red Knights relied on a core group of players for most of their offense, as Spencer Naas, Jacob Holmers and Fleming took 13 of the team's 25 shots.

Benilde-St. Margarets also got points from Nate Meyer, who also had one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. In addition, Benilde-St. Margarets received assists from Johnny Austin and Will Duda, who contributed one a piece.

The Trojans did not rack up many penalties in the contest, racking up only one minor for two minutes in penalty time.

Other players who recorded assists for Wayzata were Jack Sorensen and Chandler Lindstrand, who each chipped in one.

Jalen Long recorded 24 saves for Benilde-St. Margarets. The Red Knights incurred four minutes in penalty time with two minors. Jens Vaughn Arens made 23 saves for Wayzata on 25 shots. The Trojans registered zero goals on one power play opportunities.
