Shawville Pontiacs beats Renfrew Timberwolves 5-3 after comeback scare

Renfrew Timberwolves tried its best to erase a four-goal deficit, but Shawville Pontiacs would not be denied the victory and hung on to win, 5-3.

A goal by Alexandre Larocque put Shawville Pontiacs up 5-1 in the third period, but Renfrew Timberwolves pulled to within two on Teddy Suckow's tally 12:43 into the third period.

The win gave Shawville Pontiacs a 1-0 lead in the best of seven series.

Shawville Pontiacs got the win with help from a great game by Julian Dumont, who had one goal and three assists. Dumont scored on the power play 14:53 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Shawville Pontiacs. Shawville Pontiacs had taken the advantage when Renfrew Timberwolves' Dylan Zavitskie got sent off for roughing. Guillaume Coovi-Sirois picked up the assist.

Shawville Pontiacs made Renfrew Timberwolves' goaltenders to work without much rest, firing 31 shots and forcing 26 saves. Matt Schroeder made 16 stops and Matt Gagne made 10. Shawville Pontiacs' defensemen played an important role in the offense, chipping in two goals.

Shawville Pontiacs also got points from Anthony Rea, who also registered two goals and one assist. Shawville Pontiacs also got a goal from Mathew Labrosse as well. Other players who recorded assists for Shawville Pontiacs were Lucas Driscoll-McKinnon, who had one and Liam Poirier, who had three.

Renfrew Timberwolves got an offensive boost from its blueliners, who contributed two goals during the game.

Renfrew Timberwolves was led by Sean Kyte, who had one goal and one assist. Kyte scored on the power play 14:14 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Shawville Pontiacs. Renfrew Timberwolves had gotten the advantage when Shawville Pontiacs' Dumont was sent off for tripping. Scott Conroy assisted on the tally. Renfrew Timberwolves additionally got points from Michael Minns, who also racked up one goal and one assist. In addition, Renfrew Timberwolves received assists from Colin Bradbury, who had one.

Shawville Pontiacs' Danick Boisvert stopped 21 shots out of the 24 that he faced. Shawville Pontiacs incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors. Renfrew Timberwolves incurred 26 minutes in penalty time with 13 minors. Team's Zavitskie and Kurtis Leclaire were slapped with misconducts and ejected from the game.
