Hagersville falls apart in second, loses to Dunnville, 7-2

The Hagersville Hawks was within striking distance after one period, but the Dunnville Jr. Mudcats put the pedal down in the second en route to a 7-2 victory.

After the loss made the series score 3-1 in the best of seven series, Hagersville faces elimination next time out.

The Hawks fell victim to a deadly Dunnville power play, which ripped Hagersville for five goals.

The Jr. Mudcats were paced by Tyler Springer, who grabbed one goal and one assist. Springer scored on the power play 10:03 into the second period to make the score 3-1 Dunnville. A tripping penalty on Mitch Green had put Dunnville on the power play. Jordan Bolibrook picked up the assist.

The Hawks were unable to stop the Jr. Mudcats from sending pucks towards the net, and Dunnville eventually piled up 41 shots on goal. The Jr. Mudcats' defensemen played an important role in the offense, chipping in two goals.

Dunnville also got points from Austin Golding, who also tallied two goals and one assist to lead the team in points, Mack Steele, who also had one goal and one assist, and Hayden Molen, who also registered one goal and one assist. Others who scored for Dunnville included Evan Capobianco and Chad Springer, who each put in one. Other players who recorded assists for Dunnville were Alexander Carlson and Josh Rosettani, who contributed one a piece and Trevor Smith, Landon Minor, and Dan Arrowsmith, who each chipped in two.

Hagersville was led by Cole Martin, who finished with one goal. Martin scored on the power play 8:55 into the first period to make the score 1-1. The Hawks had taken the advantage when Dunnville's Capobianco got sent off for interference. Derek Friesen assisted on the tally. In addition, Hagersville received assists from Brad Hornby, Daniel Medeiros, and Austin Dezeeuw, who contributed one a piece.

Rosettani rejected 24 shots on goal for the Jr. Mudcats. Dunnville incurred 26 minutes in penalty time with eight minors. Ian Sylves made 34 saves for Hagersville on 41 shots. The Hawks incurred 32 minutes in penalty time with 11 minors.
