Peicheff leads New Hamburg to shutout victory over Ayr

Eric Peicheff made 29 saves to complete the shutout and led the New Hamburg Firebirds to a 6-0 win against the Ayr Centennials.

The win gave New Hamburg a 1-0 lead in the best of seven series.

The Firebirds' penalty kill excelled, as New Hamburg gave up zero goals despite allowing nine power plays.

The Firebirds stifled Ayr's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man.

New Hamburg was helped by Carter Tracey, who registered one goal and one assist. Tracey scored nine seconds into the first period to make the score 1-0 New Hamburg. Sean Kienapple assisted on the tally. New Hamburg additionally got points from Kienapple, who also grabbed one goal and three assists to lead the team in points and Kyle Mohr, who also racked up one goal and one assist. New Hamburg also had goals scored by Tyler Randerson, Anthony Osterling, and Brandon Yantzi, who each put in one. Other players who recorded assists for New Hamburg were Andrew Boer, who had two and Jay Fried and Brandon Quan, who each chipped in one.

The Firebirds incurred 34 minutes in penalty time with 12 minors. Lee Doherty recorded 24 saves for the Centennials. Ayr incurred 26 minutes in penalty time with 13 minors. The Centennials ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Jake Whibbs was ejected from the game.
